Village Links of Glen Ellyn

Village Links Glen Ellyn 18 hole course is an excellent track. Well maintained, with sand bunkers especially nice to hit from when necessary. Pace of play was a bit slower than I'd expected, at 4 hours and 55 minuted on a mid-day Friday in August. Fairways and tee boxes both show evidence of heavy play. Greens pock marked but roll true. Maintenance team should be applauded for their efforts to keep the course in good shape. That said, some parts of fairways did have thin regions. Don't purchase the turkey sandwich at the halfway house. Embarrassingly thin on meat and bread was dry. Other players had hot dogs and enjoyed them. Staff was friendly and on-task. Course marshall was monitoring pace of play, but when it is this crowded it's going to be a slow round. Course design is very interesting, and better than most public courses in the area. Easily walkable for those who like to do so. Plenty of water, sand, and tree hazards to keep you focused. #18 hole design is a real treat. GPS on carts was decent, but didn't show flag location like some systems do these days. Practice facility is quite large and was well used when we were there. VLGE also has a 9 hole course option. Parking can be a challenge when it's crowded, so give yourself an extra 5-10 minutes before tee time to drop your clubs and park/walk back to clubhouse. I recommend this course and facility. Round was very challenging but enjoyable for the most part. My issue was the female starter on the first tee of the 18-hole course. I had a threesome and we got paired with someone else last minute. We pull up to the first tee and I’m in the solo cart while my two partners are in the other cart. Without even greeting or saying hello she sternly says “you need to get into this cart” pointing at the random player of the group’s cart. I then asked if I had to and she went on a tangent about how that’s their policy and she tried to convince me to pay $20 more dollars to have the cart to myself. She was quite rude even though I complied to their ridiculous policy of sharing carts with someone you don’t know.

Beautiful lush golf course. We play the nine hole and it is enjoyable if you are riding or walking. It is not hard to get tee times we decided that this will be our regular course this summer and go the VIP member ship?
