On July 27, 2025, my group of four played at The Golf Club at Eagle Point, a course we typically visit a couple of times a year, driving just over an hour from the north and east sides of Columbus. While we always look forward to the course’s scenic layout and challenging holes, this visit left us frustrated and questioning whether we’ll return. The pro shop staff and employees were, as usual, polite and courteous, setting a welcoming tone. However, the course conditions were a significant letdown. Before teeing off on the first hole, regulars in the group ahead warned us about the deplorable state of the bunkers. They weren’t exaggerating—the bunkers resembled clay pits and mud holes, completely unplayable. We decided as a group to avoid them entirely, which was disheartening given their strategic role in the course’s design. The fairways also showed troubling signs of wear, with patches burned out despite recent hot weather and heavy rainfall. We play other courses in the area, like Otter Creek in Columbus, which charges $65 and maintains excellent conditions even during construction. At $60 per round, Eagle Point’s value felt unjustified for the subpar upkeep.Adding to our disappointment was an bizarre experience at the bar. With the hot, humid weather, we purchased Gatorade and water before, during, and after the round. After finishing, I ordered a draft beer, priced at $7.34. I handed the bartender $8, only to be told they “don’t give change.” When I asked what happened to my change, I was informed it stays in the register—not even allocated to a tip jar. This policy felt like a blatant cash grab, especially for an already overpriced beer at a golf course. To make matters worse, after waiting five minutes—long enough for two other employees to check if I’d been helped—the bartender informed me it would take even longer to get my drink. Frustrated, with my group already waiting in the truck, I requested my $8 back and left without the beer. Charging extra for cash payments without returning change is unacceptable and left me wondering how much the course pockets by rounding up every transaction. The course’s layout remains a highlight, with engaging and challenging holes that we’ve enjoyed in the past. However, the combination of poor maintenance, a $60 greens fee that doesn’t match the course’s condition, and the frustrating bar experience overshadowed any positives. During our drive home, all four of us agreed that Eagle Point may be removed from our rotation. With other courses offering better conditions, fairer pricing, and more customer-focused service, it’s hard to justify the hour-long drive and expense. I hope the management addresses these issues, as it’s a shame to see a course with such potential fall short.

I found this place to be very enjoyable. So much so, I played it twice. Everything is very well maintained with the exception of the bunkers. It seems the new management is working towards improving the bunkers. Staff was very pleasant and gladly fitted me in for a second round. If you haven’t played this course lately, it might be time to check it out. Hole 10 (pictured) is a beautiful and challenging start to the back nine.

The golf course is in the best shape I've seen it in 15 years and they're still working on improvements. They need to rehab all the sand bunkers but that is a big dollar job. Greens, tees and fairways were great. Our group of 13 had nothing but compliments.
