Played Tapton on 30th December and had an enjoyable round. All greens in play and running well considering time of year. Fairways a bit chopped up (no reqt for fairway mats) but more than playable) and lots of sweeping 'dog leg' type fairways great for driving. Driving mats on all tees (again no surprise considering time of year). Corey on reception extremely accommodating. Found an old carry bag for me to borrow having left my Power Bug battery at home which saved the day as my 'tour' bag not carriable and all carts already out. Very grateful for this 'over & above' help, thankyou! Overview:- Non pretentious venue for a 'pay & play' knock. In decent nick but not to be confused with the attention to detail and finer points of the better private golf clubs that are maybe more protective of their courses during the winter months. (Quite a few probably on temps) so you pays your money and makes your choice. Well worth a visit though if you are realistic regarding your expectations and not too 'precious'. Enjoyed it immensely.
I've played here today, Saturday the 13th December and I've paid £21 for the absolute pleasure. Every green was in play, they clearly have an ongoing project to ensure these are all-weather greens, but my god the turnaround is incredible. I played this course 2 years ago, there were only 14 holes open, the greens were diseased, the course was poorly maintained by Sheffield City Trust and Link Golf are an outstanding example of what a fine operator can do who have vision, are ready to invest and are committed to turning around golf clubs. It's a welcoming club as well, we met the club captain on the 1st tee and he told us about the journey, the changes and although subscriptions aren't where they want them to be, I'm sure with time, people will return. Well done all, it's truly a wonderful turnaround you've had there, see you again.
First of all, the staff and members we spoke to were very welcoming and friendly. However, the course was absolutely awful. We were under the impression there had been lots of investment into the course, but this wasn't the case. The driving range and new clubhouse / cafe area have been upgraded but the golf course continues to suffer. The greens were dreadful (see photos), bunkers were full of footprints and the whole course requires lots of TLC. The issues on the course are only basic and employing the right team could easily improve the course. Unfortunately no member will want to play on those greens. An extremely disappointing visit!
