Musqueam Golf & Learning Academy

First time this location. Greens were great condition. Loved the breeze being next to the river. Pro shop had some cool stuff too. Thank you. Enjoyed using every club in my bag. Walked the course. At 3000yards total it was ok. Carts looked nice though :) Looking forward to coming back and see myself do a little better.

I was at the Musqueam Golf & Learning Academy in February, when the weather wasn’t ideal.  But I was still impressed with the facility.  I was attending a workshop that was held in their meeting room/banquet space, so I didn’t do any golfing. The staff were very kind and helpful, and the amenities were quite good.  The parking lot is huge and free.  Unfortunately the Thyme Cafe was closed for winter break, but it looks like a very cozy space, with a big screen TV to watch your favorite golf tournament. The 18 hole Golf Course looked beautiful.  It was raining lightly but people were still out there playing.  The driving range area is well sheltered from the rain and is very popular.  There’s a mini-golf course, a practice green, picinic tables, and also a bike stand to park and lock up your bike if you cycled in. I live downtown and thought it would be hard to get here, but I just took the Dunbar 7 bus from Waterfront Station and it took about 30 minutes to get to 41 Street (Dunbar Loop).  From there I walked less than 20 minutes to the Academy.  It’s a nice walk and the streets are quiet.

My friends wanted to play golf on the weekend, so they booked Musqueam. It's a long drive for me since I live near White Rock. I didn't mind because when I lived in Vancouver and started playing golf, I played at the pitch and putt courses, then gradually moved up to the executive ones, which Musqueam is. I have to admit I haven't played here for years, so I was happy to come out to play. We played on a fall afternoon on a Saturday. I have to say the course was in beautiful condition. The greens were in good condition and soft. When our balls landed on the greens, they left big divots. Fairways were good. Big mulch areas around a lot of trees, so sometimes you had to really look hard to see your ball. Some of the fairways run along the Fraser River, so if you have a hard hook or slice, you'll lose your ball. Other fairways have creeks with bushes, so there are a few blind shots to contend with. The play was a little bit slow. Executive courses attract a lot of novice players or elderly. Overall, I liked playing Musqueam. It's a good course to work on your iron shots, and there are a few holes to use the driver or your long woods.
