John A. White Golf Course

The John A White is my #1 favorite public course to play in the Atlanta public course circuit and here’s a few of the reasons why. 1. Being 9 hole course it always feels like you’re moving a good speed. With that it’s perfect for a variety of schedules if you want 9 you’ll get a fun 9 holes! If you want 18 just circle back. 2. The actual layout is amazing for a 9 hole course. That being said a lot of 9 hole courses tend to be more par 3 based- John A White has more par 4 or 5’s than par 3’s. 4 - par 4’s + 2-par 5’s and 3- par 3’s. The space and the layout enable you to utilize every club during the 9 hole round. From drivers & woods to low irons and some good short game challenges. Even if you only get to play 9 - you can practically use the clubs in your bag! There’s a ton of 18 hole par 3 focused courses like Cross Creek or Legacy/Fox- they’re all fun but not as fulfilling for the quick round! 3. Always has great deals on tee times. If you don’t mind booking early or mid day you’ll get your money’s worth. I pay around $14.00 with cart almost every time I book. For the price and the size it’s amazing! 4. It feels like a family-run business. The staff there are always great, attentive, and kind. They work hard, maintain the course far better than some of the other Atlanta public courses. You may not get full clubhouse with hotdogs or drinks out the wazoo but you’ll get the best 9 holes for the money. It feels historic and takes you through a small slice of its district and home roots. Right off 285 but when you cross the range to the first hole you’re in an open green space. The contrast is cool. 5. It’s fun.

We decided to play a round of 9 while we were in town from Chicago. This worked out perfect for us because we didn't want to bring our clubs (they rent clubs for a very reasonable price) and didn't want to spend 3-4 hrs playing a full 18 holes. We had a 2hr delay on our flight and completely missed our teatime. I called and spoke to Kim and she was super understanding and accommodating. They let us squeeze into a later time. When we finally arrived it was confusing at first where to park due to some construction that was going on. But eventually figured it out and made our way to the golf house. Jeff was there to assist and he was friendly and professional. The course was a little hard to navigate but with the map and some helpful tips from Jeff, we were able to figure it out. Probably to some, the quality of the course is somewhat lacking (the cart pathways, the greens etc), but I don't think everything has to be perfect. To us that just made it more challenging and added to the fun. Next time we are in Atlanta, I would definitely visit again.

Incredibly welcoming! This is our preferred course 👍🏾🙌🏾 I highly recommend for all ages…. Hands down you will love the energy here. Beautiful course, availability, diverse, inclusive. Location is perfect and I can’t say enough about the coaches, employees, volunteers, and management. If you are just starting out, no worries they have clubs you can use too👍🏾😊 They also have plenty of coaches that offer private lessons with varying prices! The guys are gentlemen here and I can’t say enough how grateful I am for that culture!!!! It is night to day from Browns Mill just on that alone in my experience and circle’s opinions. That is across the board. The coaches and employees set the tone and it carries throughout the customer’s and visitors. It makes for a great time, every time!
