Jefferson Park Lawn Bowling Club

We came down for Friday night which are free and open to the public in July and August from 6-9, which I read about on a list of cheap date nights prior to pandemic, just as the season ended 2019, so I'd been waiting for them to open this back up to nonmembers since. We'd never been to Jefferson Park nor had we ever lawn bowled before. We spent a few minutes milling about, watching people play, and watching the sunset over and behind the city, of which there is a fantastic view, before we were approached by Sarah, who acted as a sort of ambassador. She explained the rules and mechanics of game play and the bowl, making it feel very clear and simple as well as making us feel very welcome. She walked us through our first couple turns, and then let us be to rejoin her own game, making it clear to give her a holler if we had any further questions. Unfortunately we were pretty late, so we only got a few turns in, but we had a blast. The game is a lot like bocce, but different on account of using special "bowls" instead of balls, which are lopsided and weighted on one side. As it got darker, the space remained well lit, and relatively bug free. The clubhouse is very cute and quaint, with a small kitchen, a sort of lounge with some couches and folding banquet tables, and men's and women's bathroom/lockerroom. Next to the clubhouse, adjacent to the court, is a concrete pad big enough for a few picnic tables and banquet tables, and the regulars had set up a potluck type situation to share amongst themselves. It felt very homey. we really liked the game, and the space and the vibe. Looking forward to coming back next year.

Enjoy going there and playing tournaments there. It is a challenging green because it is faster than other greens we have played on but, it forces you to improve your game. The members are also very nice.
