Hollyburn Country Club is an exclusive country club located on a hill in the British Properties of West Vancouver. We were very fortunate to receive an invitation from a member to attend the New Year's Eve Bash at Hollyburn Country Club as it is normally open to members only. This was a family friendly event with an early 9pm countdown to the New Year, and it was truly a bash! Buffet dinner which included some premium quality seafood, a photo booth, a dance floor with a disco ball spinning above, a DJ, and pyrotechnics. It was our daughter's first time dancing on a dance floor and she had the time of her life on that dance floor. Even after the 9pm countdown, our daughter stayed and danced about an extra half hour on the dance floor. Then we went back to Grandma's house and stayed up for Countdown #2...the midnight countdown. I do have to admit that the service could have been better. The people working there didn't come around to collect our plates as frequently as they do at other buffets that we've been to. Overall though, we had a fabulous time and if we ever get invited back to Hollyburn Country Club again, we'll be there in a heartbeat. It was an awesome way to ring in the new year. Happy New Year everyone! Service: Good Parking: Plentiful and free Location: Less than 1 minute drive away from Exit 11 ( 15th St. Exit) on Highway 1, and just across the street from the West Vancouver Fire Department.
Hollyburn Country Club provided an excellent venue for the BC Open squash tournament this past weekend. The courts are of the highest quality, and the entire facility is clean, modern, and well-organized. The event ran smoothly, thanks to the efficient and professional staff. It was a pleasure to play in such a well-respected club, and I would highly recommend it for any future tournaments or for anyone looking for a premier squash experience.
I went with my kids and a friend because it was my daughter’s first tournament in Canada. We travelled almost 90 minutes to West Vancouver. She has played over 200 matches in England before we relocated, so we’re not new to tournaments. We were seated quietly and focused. In the middle of my daughter’s first match, a coach named Zoe approached us and told us we had to leave. I was shocked. We weren’t disturbing anyone—just sitting calmly, and my 5-year-old was quietly playing a game. I was told that because we are non-members, each player is only allowed one guest. I explained that we were not informed of this rule. She said an email had been sent. I walked to reception to speak to the pleasant girl there who was kind. After checking at reception, another parent that was there said the email was sent on their way there. I found the email—sent only 1 hour and 33 minutes before the match—stating that only country club members were allowed unlimited guests. I told her I had been driving when the email was sent and that this rule was not mentioned on the Tennis BC website or in the booking notes. When she was called back so I could clarify, she said she was going to check the website to see what was there. She came back within seconds and said its not there. She insisted we leave the court and the premises!!! I explained that my daughter was in the middle of a tournament, with no one else to support her, and I had nowhere to take my younger child. She said there was nothing she could do. She later claimed I was yelling, even though she was the one raising her voice—other parents with us were confused, wondering who she was accusing, because it was clearly not me. How can you send an important email less than two hours before a tournament and then force parents of non-members to leave because of a rule they were given no reasonable notice of? Even the receptionist was shocked by her decision. It was ridiculous, an obvious misuse of authority, and completely unnecessary. We could have spent our morning at our own tennis club instead of dealing with this embarrassing situation. I hope Tennis BC sees this. Staff acting this way should not represent the club at public events. If you are hosting tournaments and inviting players from outside the club, make sure rules like this are clearly stated in the booking notes before people register. Absolutely disgraceful.
