Today we went to the worst golf course in Beaver County. Let me start with the positives first… they had a desk worker, they had hot dogs rolling on the mini grill, and the cart worked fine. (Please keep in mind this course was $24 for nine holes of golf). When you make it to the first tee box (and all the tee boxes for that matter) expect to find dirt, holes, and no where clean to tee your ball. Next, expect construction equipment on one of the holes, yes, heavy construction equipment on the golf course. Fairways are 4/10 and greens are 3/10. Man, do I hope they use that $24 to fix up this course, it is a disaster for that cost. BEWARE!
Very pleasant staff! Even after arriving late for a tee time, I was happily welcomed and on the first tee box in 15min. Concessions were reasonably priced, with multiple options for dinning before or after your round. Excellent for beginners, as there is not a lot of water to worry about losing balls in. A variety of short-medium length holes provide excellent practice for all skill levels. The greens were very respectable, given a lack of rain over the past few weeks. Sand traps were in great shape.
Henry Fownes, the founder and designer of Oakmont Country club, once said "Let the clumsy, the spineless, the alibi artist stand aside. A shot poorly played, should be a shot irrevocably lost." Harmony Ridge takes this idea and expands on it to the maximum. (Mr. Fownes is listed on the website as co designer along with his son, W.C. Fownes, and Emil Loeffler. ) Given Mr. Fownes fondness of punishing golfers, I am sure he would appreciate Harmony Ridges ability to not only punish bad shots but also the good ones too. The rough is penal to say the least but the fairways will also punish you depending on which stripe you hit it into (as you can see by the pictures, the white ball is the fairway). The greens (other than the first) were fairly flat and slowest I have ever played. Ball cleaner was good! It's a short course with few tee boxes in good shape and would be very gettable if it wasn't for the 4 inch long rough and patchy long fairways. Ultimately, this course could be fun if it was taken better care of.
