A nice course for those who are not pros. I brought my twin boys there this past weeke to play 9 holes to celebrate them graduating from the U of M. We reserved a time online for 3 players. Just as we were about to tee off the employee running the cart desk said they were adding a guy to our round. I understand that courses want to maximize their business, but the dude totally did not fit into our vibe and really ruined some of the experience for us. Will check out other options in the future.
Francis Gross is a truly delightful course! Charming, and a joy to walk. It strikes the perfect balance of being welcoming to beginners while still offering some challenge for seasoned players. The recent transition to 100% bent grass greens was handled with care, and the results are outstanding. The greens have never looked or played better! With new wildflower areas adding beauty and nuance, the course continues to evolve into a shining example of what public golf should be. The staff’s pride and dedication are evident everywhere, and they deserve high praise for making this such a special place to play!
A friend booked a foursome for 18 holes. I ended up needing to only play 9 because something had come up for me that day. I asked the clubhouse and they said no 9 hole play before 2pm on the weekend. Their “accommodation” was a rain check for the 9 I couldn’t play today. Ok sounds good, EXCEPT I couldn’t just come back and play 9 with the rain check a different day. I would have to book ANOTHER 18 hole round and then get half off of it. An insane policy from a course that goes out of its way to pretend like they are some private country club. I declined so did not play and guess what? They didn’t get a 4th on for our time to replace me since this happened 10 minutes before tee time. So they lost the 9 hole $ I was prepared to give them, got nothing for the 4th slot but still yet couldn’t figure out a way to accommodate. Stay far away from this course. When I went to ask the starter why they couldn’t figure out a better plan he said he had never even heard of the policy and just shrugged.
