Golf West Specialty Shop

I’ve been to both Golf West and Prime Golf here in Nanaimo for the exact same type of work, so I had a good basis for comparison. Golf West is a nice shop with easy access right off the main road. The club builder there seems more old-school — works with KZG and Bang products, lots of gear from GolfWorks — you can tell he’s got that classic Golfsmith background. This time, I brought in a set of irons to have the graphite shafts pulled from one set and installed into another — six irons total — and asked to have the grips blown off so they could be reused. The speed, quality, and communication were all excellent, no complaints there — on par with Prime Golf. The only major difference was price — and honestly, it was a big one. Golf West charged $324 and change for six clubs, which I think is pretty steep. For comparison, Prime Golf charged $260 for seven clubs, and that job actually required a more difficult install (355 to 370 tip size with custom shims). So, while both shops do great work, if you’re looking for better value for the same quality, I’d recommend Prime Golf. For that reason i have to take away 1 star sorry.

Purchased a set of irons for my 13yo. No pressure sales, only thoughtful guidance and info. A practice area in the back of the shop allowed my son to try out both new and used clubs. If you're looking for clubs, balls, or accessories, this shop should at least be one of your stops.

If I could leave a lower score I would. I gave the owner my stealth 2 driver to sell. After calling him twice over a period of 3 months he failed to tell me he had sold it. When I came into his shop to inquire after calling 2 hours prior to insure his knowledge of the situation he had no idea what I was talking about and was very rude and combative. Not sure if he has early onset dementia but avoid this shop. It's like pulling teeth to get your money. Terrible person and experience.
