Great layout and views on this PGA Signature Golf gem!!! Tough par 4's to start your round but the par 5s are conquerable. Hit one more club on Number 8 because you don't want to add to the large collection of bills on Falconhead's Signature hole.
This course is in my top 3 for the greater Austin area. I golfed here for the first time in mid June after 2 months of hot, stormy weather. The course was in exquisite shape. We all were impressed with the lush green grass and beautiful trees literally everywhere. The course is challenging but fun. The elevation of the course gives you several views overlooking the hill country. We played twilight golf and had plenty of light out till 8:30 pm. We played 12 holes It was about 92° with a wonderful light breeze the entire time. The staff and other golfers were friendly. We golfed on a Tuesday evening, but for some reason, the practice facilities were really busy so I practiced a few putts and chip shots and headed back to the cafe for a hot dog, bag of chips and an ice cold ice tea before teeing off at 5:30 pm. The pace of play was perfect for my foursome, but I could tell the guys behind us were a bit frustrated by the pace because they hit a few balls around us when we were on the greens. We let a single golfer play through, there was never any long backup of golfers waiting on the tee boxes and we kept up with the group in front of us by just playing a leisurely round of golf with some new friends. Heads up, the 7th hole is deceptively narrow and the 8th hole has a large moat in front of the green.
Played 18 hole round in Austin today and it’s all that and more. The pace of play is just over 4 hours and monitored by marshals. The greens were fast but rolled true evidenced by sinking some long putts. The course was plenty challenging and nicely maintained but it needs rain like the rest of the courses in Texas. Take advantage of the practice area for chipping, putting and warming up with your clubs before your round. Money spent is in proportion to the value received.
