City Barbeque

I first came across City BBQ in NC and fell in love. Here in Louisville, I had brisket and sausage with green beans and mac. Everything was amazing and I say that realizing I've become selective about my BBQ. The meats were juicy and hot with that wonderful smoky smell. They had great flavor without sauce (I always test that first) - the first bites were perfectly savory, smoky and juicy. This place makes world class BBQ! I tried three dipping sauces (I just touch the fork down - not baptizing it and overriding the authentic meat flavors): each had a distinct character, one with a mild heat, one with a sweeter tang, and the original. All three sauces had the thicker consistency I prefer and pleasant composition hinting of molasses, garlic, paprika, etc - I couldn't resist dipping the Texas toast in them they were so tasty! The green beans had great flavor and a soft texture with some onion and white pepper notes. The mac and cheese with a toasted cheese crust on top was also top notch and I realized that one of the reasons I really love City BBQ is because everything A-to-Z has the perfect texture, and exhibits hand crafted care for the flavors, each worthy on it's own. In case you're wondering, the sausage was also very good - great flavor with a slight snap on the bite, again this impressed with the hand crafted, non generic flavors and character. Everything was delicious!! (Last note: this is what I would call regular intact style BBQ not the vinegar slaw style.) We need this BBQ in every city!

Had an appointment during my lunch break near the City BBQ on Hurstborne Lane and decided I wanted some brisket for lunch. I should preempt this by saying, I'm a huge BBQ snob, especially brisket. If someone trims too much fat off of it, I'm not eating that jerky. To my delight, this was some of the most tender and flavorful brisket I've had in my 42 years. I would definitely go back for lunch again based on the brisket! Good thing I live a few miles away😋

City BBQ did not disappoint! From the moment I arrived, the staff was friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. They made sure everything was perfect from start to finish. The food was even better — everything was cooked to perfection, full of flavor, and served hot and fresh. The outside area was clean and well-kept, and the inside was absolutely spotless — you can tell they take pride in their restaurant. Overall, an excellent experience all around. I’ll definitely be coming back!
